Hello,

I am a Mental Health Scholar (PhD, Stanford University School of Education) and a Marriage and Family Therapist Registered Intern receiving supervision at Marin Community Mental Health (IMFT #65436; MA, Pacifica Graduate Institute). I am also currently training with the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute in sensorimotor psychotherapy, a trauma-informed, somatic-focused form of psychotherapy. As a psychotherapist, I draw primarily from trauma-informed psychotherapies, attachment theory, and Jungian (archetypal) psychology.

I have trained at the CG Jung Institute of San Francisco (James Goodrich Whitney Clinic), providing individual and couples therapy, and at Family Paths, Inc. in Oakland, CA where I worked with individuals, couples, families, children, and preteens. I have designed and led workshops for mental health clients on the topics of trauma and self-stigma and their impact on living full, authentic lives. In this capacity, I provided workshops for the Mental Health Association of San Francisco and the California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies. I have also volunteered as a hotline counselor and in the Children’s Playroom at the TALK Line Family Support Center, which is a part of the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center.

Prior to embarking on a career as a psychotherapist, I was affiliated with the Beatrice M. Bain Research Group at University of California, Berkeley, the Institute for Research on Women & Gender at Stanford University, and taught at Stanford University. My current research interests include the social and cultural contributions to mental illness; the relationship between mental illness and the evolution of human emotions; the emergence (and loss) of soul in self, relationships and communities; and how trauma and grief are culturally, socially, and psychologically denied. With V. Y Mudimbe and Pere Gode Iwele, I edited The Normal and Its Orders: Reading George Canguilhem (Editions Malaïka, 2007).

The views expressed on this site are my own, and not necessarily the views of any organization with which I am affiliated. They are not intended as a substitute for psychotherapy or as a supplement to psychotherapy I am providing. Furthermore, I do not write about my clients’ unique experiences.
